Hatch Day

Thursday morning when we arrived at school two of our eggs had begun to pip (make little air holes in their shells). By the end of the day we had two chicks and 5 with pip holes. When we arrived this morning (Friday) we found we now had 8 chicks!!! Since then our chicks have been hatching non stop! We now have about 15 chicks but it's getting hard to tell because their are so many running around in there, as well as broken shells and around 20 odd more eggs to hatch. The kids are desperate to get the hatched ones into the brooder box but I'm holding them off as long as I can. We are trying to put the chicks needs before our own!!!!
Here are a few pics of the chicks in the incubator.

Candling

Last Thursday was day 18 of incubation for our eggs. Room 4 did some candling of our little eggs. Candling is when you go into a dark room and get a torch and put it against the fat end of the the egg. Like room 4 did. Room 4 went into the  resource room were it was a really dark place because other wise we wouldn't be able to see inside the eggs if we were in a light room. Since there is 24 people in our class we got 2 eggs each because there is 40 eggs in our incubator. When we were candling one of the eggs room 4 saw an eye in the egg so it is probable going to hatch soon. I hope that most of the chickens hatch out of the eggs.

if you look at it please leave a comment. hope you like it.

The Beginning

On Thursday last week Mrs Hancock put the eggs in the chicken incubator.
Yesterday, day 7,  we candled all the eggs.  (winner=still alive, quiter=it had started, yorker=no chicks at all.)
Our class had about 4 yolkers, 4 quiters and 20 winners. It was pretty cool seeing all the chicks   inside there eggs. We each got to take 2 eggs to the candling room.  In our class we have 24 kids but yesterday we had 4 kids gone after lunch.
Everyone is excited because next Thursday we are candling again. After our next candling, on day 14, we will put the eggs back in the incubator and the lid stays on and in 7 more days the eggs will hatch. Then we will have chicks in our class. On day 19 we might hear the chicks in there eggs chipping.
