Background

Our journey began in 2013 with the arrival of an incubator on the classroom floor.  After working out what it was and what it did, the children decided to find some fertilised eggs and see what they could hatch.
We ended up with 11 chicks of differing breeds. Everyone loved these chicks which meant there was a constant stream of people in Room 4 having turns at holding the chicks.
The children then decided that they would like to have chickens at school permanently and that they could sell the eggs at the gate.  We put a proposal to Mrs Waite, Mrs Stark and the Board of Trustees and after a bit more consultation we were given approval to head towards having chickens permanently at school.
This was great news, but it was close to the end of year so we had to send our chickens off to new homes and wait until the new school year to begin again.
